The move is rumored to be part of a swap agreement, with Ramsey heading to Tottenham and the club also shelling out £20 million. Villa, who recently sold Douglas Luiz to Juventus for £43 million, is aiming to meet PSR regulations. According to a 2023 report by Spanish publication AS Sport, it was revealed that Messi had recommended Lo Celso to Barcelona in the past. The former Barcelona star had allegedly praised Lo Celso as ‘the best player in the national team’ to then manager Xavi a few years back. Though Lo Celso missed out on the 2022 World Cup due to a hamstring injury, the 28-year-old midfielder, valued at £13.5 million by Transfermarkt, could potentially be a significant addition to Villa. Having joined Tottenham in 2020 and amassed over 100 appearances, Lo Celso spent the previous two seasons on loan at Villarreal before returning last season with 24 outings across all competitions.
