Victor Wembanyama Makes NBA History with Dominant ‘Index Plowing’ Performance Against Bottom Team

“French unicorn” Victor Wembanyama took only 21 minutes on the court against the Detroit Pistons to do something no other center forward has achieved in NBA history.

As the team with the worst record in the NBA currently, the Detroit Pistons have let many opponents have sublime days and often serve as the basis for records.

Today (January 11) is also a similar occasion when the San Antonio Spurs face the team from Detroit, creating an opportunity for rookie Victor Wembanyama to go down in NBA history.

With only 21 minutes on the court, Victor Wembanyama had a triple-double with 16 points, 12 rebounds and 10 assists in a 130-108 victory over the Detroit Pistons.

Not only is this the first triple-double in the career of the rookie “French unicorn”, Wemby also became the youngest center forward in NBA history to achieve three indexes above 10 at the age of 20 years and 6 days.

There have been four players younger than Wembanyama who have achieved a triple-double, including Josh Giddey, LaMelo Ball, Markelle Fultz and Luka Doncic (all 19 years old), but all four of these names are defenders. Only rookie San Antonio Spurs is a center forward, making him the youngest center in history to have a triple-double in the NBA.

Another historical highlight pointed out by CBS Sports is that Wembanyama is the second player ever to achieve a triple-double despite playing less than 22 minutes. The only person to ever do this is Russell Westbrook in 2014.

This record adds fire to the race for the Rookie of The Year title between Victor Wembanyama and Chet Holmgren (Oklahoma City Thunder).

At this moment, Wemby is better than Chet thanks to key statistical indicators such as points, assists, rebounds and especially leading the entire NBA in blocks (average 3.3 blocks/game).

However, Chet Holmgren is better in scoring efficiency. More importantly, Chet is playing quite well in a team with a much better record than Spurs.

The Rookie of The Year race is still very tense and unpredictable, but one thing that can be confirmed is that Victor Wembanyama is doing very well right from the beginning of his NBA career.

It is probably only a matter of time before players born in 2004 continue to break records in the American professional basketball tournament.
