The rookie was raised in France by his parents, Félix Wembanyama and Elodie de Fautereau, together with his sisters, Eve and Oscar. The three brothers and sisters became close via their mutual enthusiasm for athletics and respect for one another. All three Wembanyama children took up basketball because of their parents’ influence and encouragement. Félix and Elodie.

Victor’s parents and brothers were present at the 2023 NBA Draft when he was selected first overall by the San Antonio Spurs. Victor predicted to PEOPLE before draft night that his father would be the most affected by hearing his son’s name called. My guess is that it will be my dad. “I don’t think he’s going to act it, but he is,” the sportsman remarked.

On October 25, 2023, Victor made his NBA debut after being drafted into the league.

Learn all about Victor Wembanyama’s family, including his parents Félix and Elodie, his sister Eve, and his brother Oscar, and their shared passion for basketball and life in France.

Athletes both, Félix and Elodie

Félix was a high jump superstar on the track and field team. He instilled in his kids a love of the game and a knack for speed that would serve them well in many other arenas.

There is a proper way to run, you know. That’s the kind of stuff my dad taught me, Victor said to EuroLeague Basketball. “And actually, I was actually part of a track and field team, like for a year around 10 or 11.”

Elodie taught her kids how to play basketball and went on to have a professional career in the sport. We have more in common with her because she is more like myself. We actually look alike, and she’s sort of crazy sometimes,” Victor told Slam magazine in 2022.

Oscar, Victor’s sibling, also made it out to the court. My mom organized basketball clinics for kids, so I only got to play a little bit. Oscar said, “I got into it in a club last year.” in 2023’s EuroLeague Basketball. For a whole twelve months, the thought had crossed my mind.

Two of Victor’s siblings

Eve, a daughter, was born to Félix and Elodie on December 10, 2001. The oldest, Oscar, arrived on January 18, 2007, while the youngest, Victor, was born on January 4, 2004.

Eve is 6 feet and 1 inch tall, and Oscar is 6 feet and 5 inches, so Victor isn’t the only one in his family with exceptional stature.

I mean, I had a say in whether or not I played basketball, and I still do, but the game has always been there if I wanted to play it. It’s in my blооd,” Victor said Slam, explaining the significance of sports in his family.

Originating in France

The Wembanyama kids spent their formative years in a sleepy French village called Le Chesnay, not too distant from the city of Paris. Félix is originally from the Congo, but Elodie grew up there as well. Moving to the United States to play in the NBA was definitely a culture for the rookie, whose family has deep roots in the country. On Good Morning America, Victor mentioned to Robin Roberts that the French cuisine was one of the things he would miss the most about life in France.

Roberts overheard him saying, “I’m going to find a way to bring some European and French food over there.”

Later, Victor revealed that he plans to compete for the French Olympic team in 2024. Wembanyama told the French media, “Performing well at the Olympics would be a great story,” according to the Associated Press. I’ll be watching the Olympics live, and I have my sights set squarely on the gold medal.

Eve is a basketball player and Victor’s sister.

Eve has been a part оf a number оf basketball teams thrоughоut the years, nоtably the Lyоn, France-based EurоLeague Wоmen squad LDLC aSVEL. accоrding tо the Internatiоnal Basketball Federatiоn, she played in the FIBa U20 Wоmen’s Eurоpean Challengers tоurnament in 2021 and the FIBa U16 Wоmen’s Eurоpean Champiоnship in 2017.

“My sister and my brother were both French champions, and that was my goal from the start of the season, even though I was just starting basketball,” Oscar shared with EuroLeague Basketball. It was the greatest accomplishment of my entire season, and it made me feel enormous pride. For my first year in particular.”

Oscar imitated the behavior of Victor and Eve.

Oscar wants to leave his mark in the world.

Oscar is a promising young basketball player who has already shown promise. He talkedaout how his brother’s fame has influenced him in 2023.

“My big brother taught me a lot of things, and he fulfilled his role as a big brother very well for me,” Oscar told EuroLeague Basketball. One observer said, “He knows how to manage all the attention he has on him very well.”

Even the youngest Wembanyama brother or sister admitted that Victor’s fame was “nothing new” to them.

I don’t really feel like I’m living in his shadow. I don’t want to be him; I want to tell my own story, and I want it to be as lovely as possible. “The only pressure I experience is from people who provide it to me, from continually being compared to [Victor], and all the questions I am askedaout him. Some people just know me as Victor’s sibling, but that’s not true.

Basketball was coached by Elodie.

Apparently, Victor’s mom was a Little League and young basketball coach, as he revealed to EuroLeague Basketball. Elodie coached Victor when he was younger, but she stopped being involved when he decided to make basketball his career.

Not that she doesn’t want to be a part of my show, but she knows her place, he assured EuroLeague Basketball. What I mean is… She’s a parent, so she understands that there are times when it’s best to step back from your kids’ lives.

Later, he said to GMA, “They actually didn’t interfere with my sport. All my weird quirks were encouraged. They made a lot of sacrifices. But they’ll be able to retire early, so that’s good news.

The entire 2023 NBA draft was watched by Victor’s family.

On June 22, 2023, the San Antonio Spurs picked Victor as the first overall pick in the 77th annual NBA Draft. His mom, dad, and little sis showed up to the TV event to cheer him on.

After the announcement that Victor would be joining the NBA, Eve, Victor, and Oscar all gave interviews to ESPN to discuss how they felt about the news.

That’s incredible. Eve exclaimed, “We are so proud of you. Congratulations on your incredible basketball accomplishment; you have our undying admiration and gratitude.

In response, Oscar said, “With the first pick and everything, I got little tears in my eyes,” and the siblings hugged each other.
